Why is laxative dangerous to be used to lose weight.

Laxatives in tea form is becoming popular weight loss supplement. many stores are offering slimming tea, diet tea and many other types of 'tea' are all actually laxatives. Although it may be effective, but actually it is doing you more harm than good.
One significant effect is the frequency of bowel movement. The frequent bowel movement gives the impression that the 'cleansing' process is taking place, and what we don't know is that it is actually doing more than that. These slimming tea are actually herbal laxatives which are:
  • aloe
  • senna
  • rhubarb root
  • cascara
  • buckthorn
  • castor oil
These are the common ancient natural ingredients known to cure constipation.
Castor oil, senna and cascara are available over the counter and are regarded as drugs. Studies indicate that these natural laxatives do not take up large amount of calories absorbed by our body because laxatives only act on our large intestines instead of the small one - where most of the calories are. The fat ingestion of the body could be affected if laxatives are taken in big amount and prolong usage.
Usually, people who are suffering from anorexia and bulimia are the ones who abuse the usage of laxatives.
Excessive usage of laxatives can definitely make us lose weight fast, but it may also create damage that are permanent to our intestine tract, and could also soften and weaken our bones. Maybe, people to turn to slimming tea to lose weight because it cost lesser and taste better than any slimming products, and also because it works faster.
Women are more vulnerable to the outcomes of these natural laxatives. Although there are no studies that show it could affect the menstrual cycle and fertility, women who are pregnant and trying to conceive must watch the in take of slimming tea.
It is important for us to read the labels of any slimming tea products before consuming them, otherwise we could be misled by 'sales gimmick' or 'marketing scams'. For example, both marketers and manufacturers often hype laxatives as having 'natural bowel purifying ingredients' instead of the word 'laxatives'. SOme may boost their advertising strategy by using the term 'low or no calorie'.

The detrimental effects of abusing laxatives usually occur when taken longer or more than necessary. Usually, one may feel:
  • nausea
  • tummy cramps
  • vomiting
  • faint
  • bleeding rectal
  • electrolyte disorder
  • dehydration
It could even led to surgery to remove the colon due to sever constipation when laxatives is consumed at large amount over a long period of time.
